A weakened Queens’s team through injuries, suspensions & with Slattery rested for tomorrow’s reserve match took on East Fife at Raydale today.
Queens had the ball in the net within two mins off the start with Hooper getting his head to a corner, only to see it chalked off for some pushing.
This was unfortunately the highlight of the 1st half for Queens, with the boys making unforced errors & struggling to put passes together.
It was a defensive error in the 16th min that gave East Fife the lead. A poor pass in defence was intercepted & good strike from 25 yards saw the Fifers take the lead.
In the 30th min Queens were lucky not fall further behind when the keeper flapped at a cross & the resulting shot cleared on the line by Todd.
After this Queens huffed & puffed their way to half time only creating a couple of chances.
The second half saw Baker replace Davidson. Queens looked a different team in the second half with Riley going close. East Fife defended well & it took until the 70th min before Queens equalised. A cross from Anderson was met by Young to head past the keeper.
Queens took the lead in the 80th min when the Fife keeper went awol 30 yards out & a Riley shot was saved on the line by a fife defender! Straight red & Riley confidently converting the penalty.
It seemed now that Queens would see out the game & secure another three points, no such luck! In the 85th min a hopeful ball was played to a Fife forward & with the forward heading nowhere a rash challenge from a defender saw a penalty awarded. The penalty converted the game finishing 2-2.
Overall a disappointing performance from Queens this week & a draw was a fair result.
