An injury time goal from Igor Zinko handed Celtic Boys a valuable three points against title rivals Kirrie Thistle.

Both sides had made contrasting starts to the season, with two late goals denying Kirrie a win against neighbours Forfar Boys, while Celtic had started with three wins and three clean sheets.

It was the hosts that had the first chance of the game through Christopher Gorrie, who fired wide from 20 yards in the opening minutes.

Celtic were creating the better of the chances in the opening stages, and a goal line clearance from Robbie Waddell denied Dorian Ziozkolski the opening goal. The big striker was denied by Archie McLean shortly after when the ball broke to him in the box.

Kirrie’s first real chance came from a corner, when the ball dropped for Dagan Bell, but his effort was blocked, as was Logan Richardson’s follow up attempt.

James Downie tested McLean with a curling strike from the edge of the box, but the Kirrie keeper managed to tip the ball round the post.

Igor Zinko saw a swirling free kick from the left clawed over by McLean as Celtic started the second half on the offensive.

Ziozkolski powered into the box 10 minutes after the restart as Celtic pushed for the opener but could only shoot into the side netting.

Jake Kettles had a chance for Kirrie with a free kick from 25 yards but didn’t trouble Callum Angus as he curled the ball over the bar.

With the game heading for an unlikely 0-0 draw, Celtic launched a free kick into the Kirrie box. The ball fell for Zinko, who swept the ball home from the edge of the box to win the game for Celtic.
