Goals from Owen McColgan and Brandon Traynor helped Ferry Athletic to an opening day win over Jeanfield Swifts.
Alex Roswell pulled one back for Jeanfield in the second half, but Ferry held on to take the points.
These sides shared third place in last year’s Maryfield League, but it was Ferry that struck first with 22 seconds played. Owen McColgan was sent through on goal and he lashed the ball past Sam Townsley to open the scoring.
Jake Stewart brought a save out of Townsley before Connor Milton denied Jack Muirhead to keep Ferry’s lead intact.
Ferry were looking dangerous in the opening exchanges and doubled their lead through Brandon Donnelly after 16 minutes. A corner was cleared as far as the midfielder, who smashed the ball past Townsley from the edge of the box.
Harris Chater went close for Jeanfield before Townsley denied Jackson Dobbie at the other end. Jeanfield’s stopper was keeping Ferry at bay and pulled of a fantastic close range to deny Jake Stewart from point blank range.
Liam Cooney looked to have pulled one back for Jeanfield on the half hour mark, but Milton produced a fingertip save to push the ball to safety.
