Pitfour secured their second piece of silverware of the season with a 2-0 victory over Arbroath in the J Duffy Cup final. Second half goals from Jordan Turnbull and Ben Clos sealing the victory against an Arbroath side that on the day lacked the killer touch in the final third.

The Dundee West Anniversary Cup winners looked to have got the afternoon off to the perfect start, as Alistair Alcorn found the net after 40 seconds. However, the striker was correctly flagged offside by the assistant referee.

Both these sides are challenging for the D S Rennie League title, and the quality of both sides was on show in the opening exchanges, despite the less than ideal weather conditions. Nairn Beaton’s free kick flew narrowly wide after five minutes.

Pitfour goalkeeper, Archie Kelly-Barton, was called into action after 20 minutes, keeping out Mason Anderson’s effort. At the other end, Alcorn couldn’t hit the target following an impressive run through the Arbroath defence.

The striker’s next effort did hit the target, but was saved by goalkeeper Hayden Church. Both sides had managed to cancel each other out for most of the first half, but neither goalkeeper had been seriously tested.

Pitfour took the lead four minutes into the second half. Ben Clos picked out Jordan Turnbull eight yards out from goal, and the striker’s shot came off both the posts before nestling in the corner of the net.

Arbroath responded through Aiden Smith. The midfielder fired his effort just wide after 46 minutes.

With 11 minutes remaining, Pitfour added a second. Clos was sent in one on one with Church, and drilled a low shot past the Arbroath keeper.

Arbroath nearly halved the deficit 60 seconds later.

Beaton’s volleyed just wide from the top of the box. If the Arbroath man had found the net, this goal would have been a goal of the season contender.

As the final whistle approached, Pitfour searched for a third. Alcorn was denied on three occasions, first by Church and on two further occasions by substitute goalkeeper Shaun Watt.
