Aiden Law’s hat-trick helped Dundee West secure the Brown Cup with victory over Brechin Youths at North End Park. A dynamic attacking display which featured six first-half goals ensured it was West who followed in the footsteps of last season’s winners Montrose.
Dundee West reached the final with an impressive 6-2 win over Arbroath in the Semi-final and the sides attacking flair was evident as contest began. Good link up play between Kyler Van Der Toorn and Law forced the first corner of the afternoon which was knocked over the line by Benjamin Kaneon 3 minutes.
Having taken an early lead West pressed straight from kick off allowing Law to pick up a loose ball and direct a shot past Brechin Keeper Declan Hay with 4 minutes played.
Despite the setback of falling further behind Brechin continued to look for a way back into the final and Jamie Crosby finished an impressive run with an effort just past the post.
At this stage the next goal would prove crucial and it went the way of West on 11 minutes, Deron Forbes slotting the ball under Hay having been released into space by Luca Snee.
With a three-goal cushion West began to play with freedom and Cameron Blacklock tested Hay through a decent strike from range.
Having blocked Blacklock’s effort Hay could not prevent Law from grabbing his second of the afternoon with a well-placed drive as the clock struck 18 minutes.
Law was instrumental to his sides attacking play and two later minutes helped give Snee an opportunity to unleash a powerful shot into the top corner past the Brechin Keeper.
Six minutes from half-time West scored number six and it came from Jamie Foran tapping the ball into the net at the far post.
On the stroke of the whistle Brechin had an opportunity to reduce the deficit with Keir Goodwin’s Free-kick finishing narrowly over the bar.
