Dundee West u13’s advanced to the Final of the Brown Cup following a 6-2 victory over Arbroath CSC at Downfield. In an entertaining contest watched by healthy crowd the victors overcame a two goal deficit to progress and with it the opportunity for silverware later in the season.

As you would expect from any Semi-final the match began at a ferocious pace with both sides aiming to lay down an early marker and it was the away side who created the first real opportunity.

Kyle Yule did well to control a high ball from Hal Webster and brought out a good stop by Jordan Walker in the West goal. Having tested the Keeper early Arbroath continued to press and were rewarded with the opener in the 9th minute through Logan Coull’s composed finish into the bottom corner having been released into space by Mason McDonald.

There was almost a second for Arbroath moments later as Yule struck the upright following impressive link up play with Shay McGivney.  Playing with a great deal of confidence Arbroath doubled their advantage on the 15th minute with Kayden Houghton rounding the keeper and slotting the ball into an empty net.

Despite falling further behind West continued to look for a way back into the contest and brought a goal back in the 18th minute. Aiden Law directing a shot into the bottom corner with quick movement by Kyler Van Deer Toorn and Patrick Todd creating the opportunity.

At this stage of the match both sides were pushing forward and Arbroath almost restored a two goal cushion with Houghton denied his second of the afternoon by the crossbar.

Having almost increased their lead Arbroath found themselves level in the 26 minute, Benjamin Kane unleashing a powerful shot high into the roof the net after Van Der Toorn’s dangerous ball into the box.

The turnaround was complete two minutes from the interval and Van Der Toorn having set up the equaliser got on the scoresheet by knocking Deron Forbes’s corner into the net.

Dundee West started the second half just as they ended the first and moved further ahead on 37 minutes, pressure by Stephan Sutherland and Aiden Law forcing an own goal.

With a place in the final at stake Arbroath began to commit more bodies forward in search of a lifeline in the Cup tie and Houghton forced Walker to palm the ball away.

As Arbroath pushed forward space began to appear and West scored their fifth on 57 through the head of Cameron Blacklock after a looping delivery from Law.

Dundee West sealed victory and a place in the final 1 minute from time after Jamie Moran reacted first to Luca Snee’s deflected Free-kick.
