Celtic made three changes to the side that faced Felcsut at the Pancho Stadium in the first leg. Conor Hazard coming in for Colin McCabe between the sticks, and Daniel Higgins replacing Mark Hill in defence. Jack Breslin was moved forward into midfield for Thomson who saw red in the first leg, and Jack Aitchison playing up front.
The first forty five minutes were a tale of Celtic’s dominance, Felcsut seemingly unable to gain possession, and Celtic attacking at will. The ball was being passed about nicely at pace, with crosses being swung in from both wings. Unfortunately, no one was getting on the end of them and when they did, the half chances were wasted.
Celtic opened the scoring through Theo Archibald, then Calvin Miller gave his side a lead on the night and over both legs. The second half was a different story, Felcsut got their foot on the ball and gave Celtic plenty of problems. Chances were few for both sides, but it was Miller that netted to ensure Celtic’s place in the next round.
As the first whistle was blown, Miller made a surging run down the left side and sent a warning wide of the far post. The first proper attempt came for Celtic when Archibald swung the ball in for Aidan Nesbitt. He cut the defence with a ball through to Jack Aitchison who sent wide from ten yards.
Bence Szabo of FC Felcsut then exposed a gap in the Celtic defence, and ran straight through the centre. He unleashed from twenty five yards, and for a moment looked like it would beat Conor Hazard, but the big Celtic keeper easily plucked from the air.
The goal that everyone was anticipating, came on twenty nine minutes when Nesbitt played down the left for Aidan McIlduff. He sent the ball over to the far side of the penalty area for Archibald to gather, cut inside and send past Toth for a well earned lead.
Celtic extended their lead in the match and took the upper hand over the two legs. Aitchison received the ball and chipped it over his opponents head, rounded him and sent the ball down the wing for Miller to chase. He set off like a greyhound, and fractionally beat Toth to the ball out on the edge of the penalty area. He got a touch and enough power on the ball to send in from an unbelievably tight angle, and it may have taken a touch off the keeper, but what a goal it was to double their advantage.
