Kinross Colts recorded a victory over Kirkcaldy YM at home as a double from Cameron Black and goals from Liam Murray and Lewis Caulfield sealed the win. Lewis McLeod scored from the penalty spot for the visitors to get one back.
An even opening with neither team able to profit from early crosses and it was Kirkcaldy that looked the better team as Michael Drysdale cleared from Jamie Spears cross. The visitors were caught on the break a few minutes later when Black played through Craig Swift. As the ball clipped his heels and bounced up it was Black who thundered the ball into the far corner to give the Colts an early lead.
Ross McNeish for Kirkcaldy drove an effort towards goal but Lewis Bathgate in the Kinross goal was equal to it. The visitors kept up their search for an equaliser and would have got one but for tremendous defending from Caulfield to deny George Galloways header and Jay Elders volley. Galloway had another chance for Kirkcaldy a minute later but again saw his shot blocked by Caulfield.
An ambitious strike on 16 minutes from Sean Cowe meant Gregor Kerr in the Kirkcaldy goal had to scramble to turn the ball wide. Cowe took the corner and his delivery was inch perfect for Black who rose highest to nod home his second to double the lead for Kinross. The hosts pressed for a third and Euan Duthie had a shot blocked while Black couldn’t quite direct his header goalwards for a hat-trick after superb work by Murray to set him up.
The visitors were given a lifeline when Caulfield was adjudged to have pushed Spears inside the box and McLeod dispatched the resulting penalty into the bottom right corner. Kirkcaldy, with the wind in their sails went close to an equaliser in the dying minutes of the half when Bathgate had to make a good stop from Elder. He had another chance after a through ball by Galloway but dragged it wide.

Kinross came out for the second half brilliantly and made it three within two minutes of the start of second half. Black launched a ball forward after good persistence on the touch line and Murray latched on to it to fire pass Kerr in the Kirkcaldy goal. The Colts looked for another and Black was close to turning provider again as his through ball was collected by Cameron Donnelly. He pulled it wide of the goal as Kirkcaldy hung on.
The fourth arrived for Kinross on 50 minutes when Caulfield made a run to the front post before meeting another excellent corner delivery from Cowe. His free header beat the keeper before nestling into the far bottom corner of the net. The game quietened down after a frantic opening ten minutes of the second half and chances became few and far between.
The next chance came on 57 minutes when Cowes ball into Donnelly let him run down the left wing before playing in Paul McLintoch. He twisted in and out but the stubborn Kirkcaldy defence made sure no shot was getting away. Kinross began to pile on the pressure again and Black headed wide before quick reactions by Kerr denied Swift after he chased down Blacks through ball.
Kirkcaldy searched for a consolation goal and would have scored if it wasn’t for a good point blank save by Bathgate to deny Spears header. Meanwhile Kinross searched for a fifth as more great work by Murray down the right. He drilled in a cross and Keir Mahon was unable to tap it in with his first touch of the game.
Kinross Colts collected the three points as they moved off the bottom of the league after a tremendous display to beat Kirkcaldy YM.

Cameron Black and Liam Murray – Tough choice after a superb team performance. Blacks two early goals and Murray overall play was brilliant however Lewis Caulfield, Sean Cowe and Craig Swift all stood out as well.
Jay Elder – Had the best chances for Kirkcaldy YM in what was a tough day at the office for the visitors.
