Kirkcaldy High School emerged as 6-2 victors in their Fife Cup Semi Final tie against Balwearie High School. John Soutar, Jamie Strachan and Ben Belfield were the goal heroes for Kirkcaldy as they netted two each in the game. The result sees the boys from Kirkcaldy through to the final where they will meet Glenrothes High.
Kirkcaldy brought the momentum from their 8-3 quarter final win through with them as they began the game strongly. John Souter netted the first goal of the game with a neat shot across the goalkeeper to hand his side the initial advantage.
Balwearie, however, did well to regroup and managed to grab an equaliser for themselves afterwards. The tie was back in the balance.
Jamie Strachan then scored his first goal of the game to restore Kirkcaldy’s lead.
Once again Balwearie displayed great resilience and were able to score their second. The tie was level once more and it was looking to be well-fought contest.
After this setback Kirkcaldy upped their performance level with devastating effect. Jamie Strachan started off the scoring spree by netting his teams third and his second of the game.
Ben Belfield increased the away side’s lead by thundering home a strike that made the score 4-2. With Kirkcaldy starting to assert control on the game it looked like Balwearie could well suffer the same fate as their previous round opponents, Buckhaven High School.
John Soutar, confident from opening the games scoring, then grabbed a second in the match for himself to put the tie beyond any doubt.
Ben Belfield then added the icing to Kirkcaldy’s semi final cake when he made the score 6-2.
Kirckaldy High School can look back on a confident performance and will no doubt be feeling that their prospects for winning the cup itself are high. With Glenrothes also being amongst the goals recently the cup final is sure to be an exciting affair.
