Fixture: Jeanfield Swifts U19 v AM Soccer U19
Competition: Fife League Summer Cup Semi Final
Venue: Riverside Stadium, Perth
Date: Sunday 8th March
The previous three matches involving both teams have always been tight affairs, with a draw and two wins for Jeanfield by the odd goal, and this game was to be no different.
Both teams like to get the ball down and pass, but both teams did try to play football in difficult weather conditions.
Jeanfield had the wind behind them in the first half, dominating most of the play and possession, with both John Booth and Ollie Saffery coming close for the home side, but their attempts went wide.
AM Soccer had the best chance of the first half when they set up a lovely counter attack, but James Lang’s shot went over the bar.
Centre back Tom Webster and goalkeeper Cameron Somerville were the key to their defence and were always a threat with their quick counter attacking football.

Five minutes into the second half, Jeanfield took the lead. Tricky midfielder Steve Laurie picked up the ball up just inside the opposition half and went on a mazy run that seen him glide past five players before coolly slotting the ball past the onrushing keeper. A fantastic individual goal from one of Jeanfield’s top players this season.
AM Soccer responded with a barrage of balls into the penalty box that saw Jeanfield having to defend deep into their own area. Both Jeanfield central defenders Hamish McMullan and Alisdair Woodhead had their work cut out, but always made their tackles and seemed to read where the opposition were heading.
As the game went on, both sides tired due to the soft ground and and each came close at either ends.
With 10 minutes remaining, Jeanfield made it 2-0. Stevie Laurie, this time coming in from the left, beat two defenders and curled the ball past the goalkeeper. This was the goal that Jeanfield needed to kill the game and take the wind out of AM Soccer.
In the end a deserved win for Jeanfield, although AM Soccer were very much in the match until the second goal was scored. Jeanfield now look forward to a final against Kelty.
