AM Soccer Football Club was recognised at the recent Scottish FA East Region Quality Mark Awards by receiving the Legacy Award, an award that recognises clubs that play a key part within their community. The Legacy Award is for clubs such as AM Soccer which has over 12 teams and provides footballing activities in the community.
Club Manager Lindsay Sharp described the journey the football club has made to receive this prestigious award, saying: “We first started off as a football club offering sessions for children to have fun and develop technically in the game, but it has grown to have 14 competitive teams at the moment.”
“We are involved with nine Primary Schools and have pre-school football, a girls section and are involved with 450 children a week.”
AM Soccer players Adam and Isla both reap the rewards from the work this tremendous club does within the community and both have been part of the AM Soccer set up since they were two and four years old respectively.
“The coaches are good, help us a lot and are good at telling us what to do” they said. Adam added “Training here has helped me because it’s made me become more comfortable playing football and made me a better footballer as well.”
Lindsay also thanked the Scottish FA for the help and guidance in achieving the award and advice how to grow as a football club, saying: “We have been able to plan better on how to grow thanks to the experience of the Scottish FA staff and others involved in the Quality Mark process.”
Kevin Lee, the Scottish FA’s East Region manager, said: "AM Soccer are a fine example of how to effectively operate as a community football club. Although they do offer a training and games programme their ethos is more about developing the person rather than just the player.
“Lindsay and his team have worked tirelessly over a number of years to create a sound club structure that delivers a quality service for their local community. On behalf of the Scottish FA East Region staff we would like to congratulate AM Soccer once again on achieving Quality Mark Legacy Status."
