On a typical cold and wet Scottish day, the brave spectators who turned out to watch Hillfield Swifts vs AM Soccer were repaid with some fine football on display, particularly from Hillfield. It was, ultimately, Hillfield who ran out comfortable victors in the end. This was in no small part due to Logan Donaldson pulling the strings for a powerful Hillfield side that look the part this season.
However, the start of the game proved to be a pulsating, end to end start with Callum Houstoun getting the first decent attempt away for the visitors but dragged his shot wide.
The deadlock was broken quite magnificently by Zack More of Hillfield as he struck a half volley from all of 30 yards before hitting off the crossbar and crossing the line.
This started a period of Hillfield dominance as they kept the ball well, waiting patiently for an opening but AM Soccer's defence coped well with Scott Wilson keeping them tight and compact.
AM Soccer persistently tried long balls to try and catch out the Hillfield defence and Stewart Houstoun was almost in were it not for Macaulay Jarret reacting smartly to clear the danger.
This seemed to almost wake Hillfield up and, after a goal mouth scramble involving Logan Donaldson and Ryan Marshall having shots blocked, David Webb was able to poke home from inside the six yard box to make it 2-0 to Hillfield.
Almost straight after this Zack More picked up the ball and sent a long, hopeful ball forward which found Donaldson who cooly slotted past Wishart to make it 3-0.
AM Soccer did manage to pull one back before half time as Houstoun, who looked Soccer's brightest player, pounced on a mixup between Hunter and Jarret before placing it in the net to make it 3-1.
Half Time:  Hilfield Swifts 3-1 AM Soccer
The second half begins with a goal from Marshall to make it 4-1 Hillfield as he smartly slotted the ball in after great play from Donaldson again.
AM try to muster up a come back and a half chance falls to Quincy who is unable to take advantage as Jarrett gathers easily.
This idea is short lived however as a first time ball from More is touched down excellently by Stewart to tee up Marshall who lashes it into the top corner in style from 18 yards to make it 5-1 Hillfield.
Donaldson made it 6-1 Hillfield five minutes later. This was after some great link up play between Stuart and Green who then released Marshall before he cut it back to Donaldson and he managed to score the rebound after an excellent save from Wishart denied him at first.
AM Soccer did manage to pull another one back as Cockburn was brought down by Jarrett, before Jones kept his composure to make it 6-2.
Any thought of a comeback was wiped away as McAlpine's thunderous effort found the back of the net after yet more incisive play from Donaldson which made it 7-2 Hillfield. This rounded up an impressive display from the league leaders with Donaldson at the heart of every Hillfield attack.
Full time: Hillfield Swifts 7-2 AM Soccer
