Cove Rangers into last eight of Scottish FA Youth Cup

Cove Rangers FC of the Highland League made it into the last eight of the Scottish FA Youth Cup with a fantastic 1-0 win against Haddington Athletic on Friday night away from home with Cameron Carnie netting the opening goal, the Balmoral Stadium outfit are the only non league representative left in the competition.
What makes this feat all the more remarkable is that Cove have had to travel away from home on three occasions to earn their place in the quarter-finals with trips to Formartine United and Kelty Hearts before the trip to East Lothian on Friday evening.
The success on Friday night hadn't come without it's challenges as it required players getting time off work, school and college to make the three hour trip to Haddington.
Cove Rangers Under 18s manager Gary Hake spoke about the victory on Friday away from home when he said, "It's a great result for the club, it's exciting for the young players to be in the hat with the big guns in the quarter finals and they've made a bit of history for the club as well, we are hoping to get a home tie so we can get a crowd at our home ground after travelling every game.
"Cameron's goal was a ball from the right back area into the channel and Cameron was one on one with one of their centre halfs and his body strength took him on the outside and managed to get away from the defender before hitting a fantastic strike into the near corner.
"We know that we aren't going to win the Scottish Cup but you want to go as far as you can and to put the club on the map and put the players out there so people can see how good a side we are, we had no expectations but I knew if we had the correct draw that we would go far in the competition and we got that after beating Kelty which was probably our toughest tie.
"But I knew that the game on Friday night was going to be tough game as Haddington were more physical and more in your face and the conditions dictated that it wasn't going to be a great game of football for the viewers but we managed to get the result and it was a professional, gutsy performance."
Hake feels that the result on Friday signalls the direction is going in, "The 1st team are doing exceptionally well, when I took over the youth academy at Cove then it was a case of getting the right quality of player in and we now have good quality players in.
"We've progressed really well, the under 20s are doing well and so are the 17s and now the fact the 18s have reached the quarter-finals of the SFA Youth Cup then you can see how well they are doing and performing, the players on taking on board what they are being told whether that is from me or the 1st team coaches."
