YFS News (99)

Ahead of the weekend, we look at a heart-warming story from the 2006 Irvine Meadow boys, who made a fantastic charitable gesture yesterday.
On 22nd March it was World Down’s Syndrome Day, which aims to raise awareness of the condition that affects 60,000 people across the United Kingdom.
The 2006 Irvine Meadow boys decided that they wanted to help bring our attention to the cause, and did so by donating an impressive £200 to the Down’s Syndrome Scotland Ayrshire branch yesterday.
A great show of the young boys character, which is not the first time the boys have decided to donate to a local organisation, showing that there are bigger things in life than football.
Last night, a representative from the Ayrshire branch attended the boys training with her son to receive the cheque.
It is with great gestures like this that we remember to help those around us who need it most, and the 2006 Irvine Meadow boys exemplify that attitude.

How do you spend your week off... A sunny beach in Spain? A cultural visit to France? The bright lights of the Big Apple? YFS Media Team duo Kieran Green and Ryan Rowe have decided to go for something a little bit different. Substitute Barcelona for Balmoor, Paris for Pittodrie and New York for New Douglas Park and you'll be along the right lines.
Starting on Monday, they will set off on a road trip visiting all 42 SPFL club stadiums in just a few days. Not content with that, they're hoping to visit a local youth club in each of the areas too. If you'd like to add your club to their map, all we require from you is a club representative to meet them at your home pitch, and pose for a photo with a club scarf/shirt/merchandise. Fill out the form below and if they can visit you, they'll be back in touch.

YFS wishes Kieran and Ryan the very best for their adventure. To donate to their chosen charity, click here.

LIVE: SSS Women's Cup & Queens Park Shield

Click here to watch the SSS Queens Park Shield stream.
Video technology has been all over this week's back pages, following the successful pilot in the international challenge match between France and Spain. YFS is excited to reveal that that it will be making its first appearance into the world of Scottish youth football this June, at the SPORTSassist South East Region YFA Cup final weekend.
The showpiece final weekend takes place on 3rd & 4th June at New Countess Park, Dunbar and plays host to seven cup finals over two days, with all age groups between Under 13 and Under 21 catered for. The cups are for all Scottish Youth FA teams plying their trade in the South East Region, inclusive of East Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scottish Borders and West Lothian.
All seven finals will feature a 'fifth official' in the form of a video referee. The extra referee will be based at the side of the pitch (see above, for an artists impression) and watch the full match on a monitor, with YFS TV cameras providing a live stream. The fifth official will have a microphone link to the referee and at any point whereby the referee wants a second opinion on an incident relating to a goal, penalty kick or red card, they will have the option to consult the video referee.
South East Region YFA president Fraser Lawson explained: "We are very excited to be trailblazing the technology that is primed for World Cup 2018, within the youth game in Scotland. An International Football Association Board (IFAB) ruling allows any amateur association to make use of initiatives currently being piloted at senior level, so we have taken this step. Last year we were able to pilot vanishing spray, but this is a significant level up from that."
YFS will of course bring you all the action from Dunbar. Below is a list of fixtures set to take place across the weekend:
Leith Athletic FC v Hutchison Vale FC U13
Edinburgh City Blacks v Hutchison Vale FC U14
Spartans FC v Tynecastle FC U15
Tynecastle FC v Portobello CFA U16
Tynecastle FC v Fauldhouse United U17
Musselburgh Windsor FC v Broxburn Athletic Colts U19
Newtongrange Star v Murieston United U21
