Stenhousemuir beat Colony Locos by five goals to one in the 3rd round of the Trans World Soccer Scottish Youth FA Cup match at Inverurie’s Garioch Sports Centre. Despite the game being scoreless at half time, the visitors stole the show in the second half to progress into the next round of the competition.
It was Stenhousemuir who had the first effort of the match as Ryan Weir’s low shot from the right of the box hit the post as the visitors looked to open their account early on.
Stenhousemuir continued to press and an effort by Ryan Gillespie was well saved by Colony’s stand-in goalkeeper Matthew Douglas, who is usually scoring the goals as a striker and not saving them. He then made another save five minutes later as Stenhousemuir’s Weir had an effort after being set up by Grant Craig.
Colony had their first chance of the match as a corner swung in from the right was volleyed by Joe Burr, whose effort went into the side netting.
However, it was Stenhousemuir who had two chances before half time. Craig’s run from the right set himself up for a shot which was well saved by the feet of Douglas. Then with moments to go before the whistle Weir hit the post with a low shot after a good run from the right.

Forty five minutes of action couldn't seperate the sides, but it only took three minutes into the second half for Stenhousemuir to take the lead. Craig’s pass found Gillespie who slotted home with a low finish inside the box to give the Stirlingshire side the lead.
Colony looked to respond immediately a long range shot from Christopher Hay went wide of the target. A speculative effort, but not too far off and certainly signalled their intent.
However, Stenhousemuir doubled their advantage soon after. Craig laid off Weir who drove home a powerful shot from the edge of the box to put the visitors two goals ahead.
Two minutes later and it was 3-0. Tommy Hill finishing off inside the box to put the away side into a commanding position.
Colony pulled one back though as they searched for a way back into the tie. Kyle Gordon’s ball in from the right was finished off by Hay from the left side of the box to give Colony hope of a comeback.
They almost narrowed the lead further as well soon after, but Phillip Woodgreaves’ shot from outside the box went wide of the target.
Despite the home sides hope to battle back, it was Stenhousemuir who further increased their lead. Andy Grimshaw turned with the ball, setting himself up nicely for a shot from the left hand side which found the back of the net.
Two minutes from time Stenhousemuir added icing to their performance. Some nice play between Ryab Jones and Nic Brown found Craig who slotted home with a fantastic back heel to confirm a well-deserved victory for his side.
Stenhousemuir will be delighted to advance into the fourth round of the competition, while Colony will be disappointed to have not built upon a solid first half performance.

Magic Moment
Colony Locos
The goal to make it 1-3 was a great goal as the ball was perfectly crossed in by Gordon and finished off superbly by Hay to give his side the chance of a comeback.
The fifth goal of the game was fantastic as Craig’s back heel goal would not look out of place in any major league in the world.
