Ayr United started this game against Stranraer with pace and passion and their strong start paid dividends when they took the lead with two minutes on the clock. A cross from Jordan Graham was headed down to Mark Shankland whose superb half volley exploded into the top corner. Stranraer were sparked into life after this and showed a physical side to their game. Ayr struggled to cope with this for 15 minutes and the game became very scrappy. Once they settled though, Ayr scored again just before half time when a Mark Shankland cross was headed powerfully into the net by Lewis Schofield.

The second half saw Ayr dominate the game, with some patience and pace to their game, and they scored another 2 goals from Lewis Schofield to complete his hat trick. Sean Robertson then added to the tally when he lobbed the goalkeeper from around 30 yards to score a superb goal. Mark Shankland completed the scoring when some excellent passing play from defence and then through midfield ended with him stroking the ball home from 12 yards.

Head Coach Davie White commented “Every player today contributed to a very good team performance. Today’s standard is the level that we want them to achieve consistently and build on, in future weeks and games”.
