Dunbartonshire Football Development League
Ardencaple Boys Club Under 14s 4
(11, 22, 55, 62)
Lochgilphead SC Under 14s 3
(Coates 10 & 25; McCallum 45)
This game was a great example of both teams with nothing else on their minds than going forward. Unfortunately for Lochgilphead, they ended up on the losing side this time in a match that could have gone either way.
The home side had the better of the opening exchanges, but it was the visitors who opened the scoring when Josh Coates followed up on a rebound from goalkeeper Drover to score from close range. Before Lochgilphead had settled on their lead, the scores were level when they didn’t properly deal with a though ball in the centre of defence and the striker shot home into the right hand side of the goal.
League leaders Ardencaple gained the advantage following a corner on their left when one of the midfielders lost his marker and headed in from 8 yards. However the Mid Argyll side equalized when Coates bravely challenged the goalie for a cross ball and though both players required treatment the important matter was that the ball ended up in the home team’s net.
Ten minutes into the second half, the Lochgilphead side, sponsored by D A MacDonald (Contractors) Ltd, took the lead once more. Aaron Moore’s corner from the right was met superbly by Coll McCallum and his headed goal was no more than his team’s play had deserved. However, as in the first half the lead wasn’t destined to last very long as Ardencaple scored twice in the closing period of the game. Their third goal followed a run into the box and with no defenders closing down the forward, he deftly lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper from 10 yards. The winning goal came from another through ball from the left which gave the striker the chance to take the ball round the keeper and side foot it into the unguarded goal.
This was an end to Lochgilphead’s 100% league record, however their heads should not be down. There were some good individual performances on display, particularly worth a mention were Ryan Deans, Ewan Dudding and of course Josh Coates with his brace of goals.
This Saturday (13th) the 14s have no game as the scheduled opposition has a postponed Scottish Cup tie to play. The next fixture is now away to bottom club Blair Thistle on 20 November.
