The Reds battled the elements and a fiercely competitive home side to emerge with three hard-earned points.

A bitterly cold wind and occasional snow flurries met the players and the first half was a war of attrition, with Riverside facing the breeze and struggling to get the ball into the opposition half.

A break down the Gairdoch right saw the ball centred and their No 10 fired a low shot past Chris to open the scoring. Reds chances were few and far between in that first half, as Cammy sliced a shot wide and Louis had a low effort which slipped past the post.

The second-half was a different proposition, and with the wind at their backs, Riverside began to dominate. Jack levelled the score with a stunning individual effort, twisting and turning to make space before blasting a 25-yard shot high into the net.

Louis cracked the bar soon afterwards, but the Reds were not to be denied and Luca volleyed home from Calum's corner to give the Reds the lead.

They should have stretched that advantage when a neat flick by Hamish released Louis who was bundled over in the box for a penalty. Charlie sent the keeper the wrong way but hit the post and when he smashed the rebound into the net, it was ruled out as no other player had touched the ball.

Riverside did create a two-goal cushion, though, when Blair's long free-kick caused panic in the Gairdoch box and Scott spun to fire low into the net.

Gairdoch fought to get back into the match and four of their players saw yellow cards as they became more frustrated. Kyle was on hand to sweep a ball off the line, and then a free-kick pumped into the box eluded Chris' grasp and trickled in to ensure a nervous end to the game.

However, the Reds saw it out to the final whistle and the coaches will have been pleased with the side's tenacity.
