Deja Vu... When these two teams met in October, Firrhill stole a 2-1 victory - much against the run of play. So, when two players called off this morning, Firrhill were fearing the worst with only ten boys available at Cavalry Park. Interestingly, both team captains are currently training together as part of a Hibs development squad.

On a glorious sunny morning, Firrhill started the brighter with some nice passages of play and a couple of half chances. As the game progressed it was no surprise the home side began to dominate and create chances. Two free kicks, a one on one and a strong header were all dealt with by the impressive Fraser Briton in the Firrhill goal.

Firrhill strung together several passes in a lovely move from goal to goal, but Kyle Wynne couldn't quite finish it off. At half time, Portobello would have wondered why they weren't ahead, while the visitors were just relieved to go in level.

Half Time: Portobello High School 0-0 Firrhill High School

The visitors tired visibly in the second half, and Portobello grew in their domination. They eventually took the lead mid way through the half with a low cross from the right nicely tucked away on the volley. 1-0 Portobello.

More chances fell to Portobello, bringing out a series of fine saves from the Firrhill skipper. Hard work and stout defending somehow kept the scores level. Firrhill always posed a threat on attack, and a ball over the top was calmly lobbed over the advancing keeper by Ciaran Fraser to the delight of the visitors.

Relief turned to ecstasy for Firrhill when the ever dangerous Kyle Wynne broke down the left and calmly slotted home with a couple of minutes left Mr Hollis (English Teacher) was beside himself with joy!

This was a great advert for schools football - some hard tackling, good passing, fine individual performances - played in a good spirit - both teams fielding players of mixed abilities. There were many SERYFL Division 1 players on display, teaming up with players from the lower divisions and non club players. Fine stuff.
