On a blustery Saturday the team left early to travel up to play Glasgow City in their first game after the midseason break. Dumfries Girls were missing their talented striker Gillian due to injury but took 3 new signings Kelsie, Amy and Rachel to strengthen the squad. From kick off Dumfries looked the stronger side and although they initially struggled to play their usual flowing football they continued to make the majority of the play.

The first goal for Dumfries came from an accurate pass from captain Emily to winger Julie. Julie passed it in to Lucy up front and she put it across goal for striker Kirsty put past the Glasgow keeper.

It took a long time for the second goal to come. During that time the Glasgow team looked threatening on the break but the Dumfries defence, beautifully organised by their superb sweeper Eleanor Hope and right back Erin Corbett mopped up any pressure so that Kirsty in goals had little to do. Kirsty made a couple of good saves and the scoreline remained 1-0 Dumfries.

As the game progressed the talent and strength in the Dumfries side began to tell. The second goal came again from a ball in to Lucy who looked up, picked her spot in the top corner of the net and her shot gave the Glasgow City goalie no chance.

The third goal was a fabulous solo effort from Emily who took the ball from within her own half, made a searing run past all of the Glasgow defenders and finished perfectly with a great shot . The final score was Glasgow City 0, Dumfries Girls 3. The game was played in good sporting spirit with the ref having little use for the whistle and the girls all concentrating on playing good football.

Dumfries continue their league success only having been beaten by Celtic so far. Next week we play at home against Motherwell Claret at Kingholm.
