SYCLA solitary vuvuzela was in full flow as Ayrshire side Tass Thistle near dominated a stuffy Gourock side in the fourth match of the Champions of Champions series.

Tass showed their intent from the off with Fraser Burns missing a gilt edged opportunity, seeing his first shot blocked by Gourock keeper Kieran Devlin and the second smothered when he should have burst the net.
Tass’ Liam Madden then did well to break into the Gourock box before beating a defender and hitting the side netting from a tight angle with other options available in the box.

It was Gourock’s turn to show they were in the match with Ross Mackay playing a brilliant through ball for Jack Purdie however his shot was fired straight at Tass goalkeeper Dylan Jackson. Again it was Purdie who had the chance for Gourock after some skilful play got him into the box though his effort was knocked tamely wide.

Tass took the lead soon after with an absolutely stunning strike from Craig Logan. Fraser Burns’ cross into the box was cleared only as far as Logan who volleyed home into the far left corner of the net.

There was just enough time left in the first half for Liam Madden to miss hit a shot wide as Tass closed out the half in strong fashion.

The second half came and with it Gourock showed more determination to get themselves into the match with Andrew Ellis immediately firing a shot at the keeper.

But again it was Tass who displayed they had more about them with a testing ball from Jack Frew having to be flicked over for a corner kick. Kieran Devlin, in the Gourock goal, had a few nervy moments when, under pressure, he scuffed his clearance straight to a Tass player and then he failed to hold the ball before gathering at the second attempt.

Tass should have killed the game off when David Gibbons picked up the ball on the left hand side and, after getting himself into the box, he slotted the ball across goal which evaded the Kieran Devlin and met the sliding in Fraser Burns who put the ball agonisingly wide.

Gourock had the last chance off the game and a chance to earn themselves a draw. Andrew Ellis managed to work his way into the box and despite being well shackled by the defence he managed to win his side a corner.

The corner in was met by Gourock’s Euan Knox, the tallest player on the park, as he rose above everyone else but his header was straight at the keeper and that was to be the last of the action as Tass claimed a well-earned 1-0 victory.
