Forfar Farmington Blues Under 13s
Monifieth Reds Under 13s
Competition: Friendly
Date: 03/03/2012
Forfar made another slow start in this match, which to be fair, may have been linked to the weather, which was very cold and very wet. Before Forfar had the chance to warm up Monifieth Reds made the best of the initial play to extend into a 2 goal lead.
A clever chip by Erin Thomson over her marking defender, on the half way line, gave her something to run onto from which she scored. Lois Miller followed shortly after with another goal to even the game. Leila Strachan came on as substitute and soon made an impact by scoring to give Forfar the lead. Forfar’s lead was extended in the second half, and although Monifieth made a brief comeback to worry the Forfar players, they composed themselves and moved forward to score again.
Forfar are by no means a complete team but today they scored 12 goals, six coming from prolific scorer Leila Strachan. Erin Thomson scored late in the game to add to her earlier goal and other goals were scored by Caitlin Mitchell, Bethany Kiddie and Leah White. Monifieth Reds are a quick physical team and Forfar did well to counteract this. Sherie Stewart was superb in goal making several brave and athletic saves to deny Monifieth further goals.
A few small rule changes from Under 11 to Under 13 have caught Forfar out on several occasions over the past few friendly’s but these friendly’s are played so the girls can learn to adapt. There were also many positives on display today. Some passing was precise, there were some effective touches to create space or release a player. Many tackles were strong and well timed. Many goals were scored, the girls worked extremely hard, and Stewart pulled off several fine saves.
Full Time: Forfar Farmington Blues Under 13s 12-8 Monifieth Reds Under 13s
Forfar Goals: Leila Strachan 6, Erin Thomson 2, Bethany kiddie, Caitlin Mitchell, Lois Miller, Leah White.
