Due to recent events, St Peters have managed to move further up the table and so this fixture took on the mantle of a top of the league clash.
On a really cold and windy day it was never going to be pretty, but St Cadocs’s were first out the traps and in the first minute Youseff broke free and played the ball inside to Joe, who was unmarked with only the keeper to beat. At this point the referee blew for offside – a really contentious decision, as Joe looked to be at least two yards onside – but only one man’s decision matters, and it was a lucky escape for St Peters.
They took full advantage of this and five minutes later they opened the scoring. St Cadocs old failing of losing the ball in dangerous areas led to a cross from their left and a looping header took it past Owen in the St. Cadocs goal.
It was an untidy and scrappy match which unfolded as the weather took control, but both teams tried to play football. After 14 minutes, Jamie Waddell played a clever ball through for Youseff to chase and he did just that. As the St Peters goalie came out it was going to take a brave challenge for Youseff to convert, but he’s made of strong stuff and his bravery paid off and the goal brought the game level at 1-1.
St Cadocs continued to press and David and Jamie both came close. Owen also had saves to make and made them well.  The old failing came back again in the 21st minute as the ball was given away just outside the box - when a big blooter was called for - and the loose ball found a St Peters attacker who slotted home to once again put them ahead.
St Cadocs tried to raise their game but apart from the odd attack most of the play was fought out in midfield. The most controversial moment of the match came in 35 minutes when Steven Lavery raced onto a through ball and only had the goalie to beat from 10 yards. Stevo was brought down just as he was about to pull the trigger by what looked like a rash, last ditch tackle and the ref waved play on, which surprised even the St Peters players as they all looked to him fearing the worst.
There were a few who must have thought this wasn’t going to be our day and that was reinforced just 3 minutes later as St Peters increased their advantage with another goal brought about by poor ball retention just outside the box and their striker went on to score.
St Cadocs are nothing if not resilient however, and they gave themselves a lifeline by scoring just 2 minutes before half time through Jamie Waddell, who angled a superb 20 yard drive into the pokey after St Peters had failed to clear a corner.
Half Time: St. Peters B.C. Under 17's  3 - 2 St. Cadocs Y.C. Under 17's
The weather relented a bit and it was all St Cadocs throughout the second half. There was a succession of half chances, but no real gilt edged opportunities. David, Joe, Youssef and Jamie all had shots just off target and for all the pressure, it has to said that St Peters showed great resilience at the back.
When the whistle went St Peters celebrated their place at the top of the league, albeit with St Cadocs having a game in hand. Indeed such was their delight their singing could be heard in the St Cadocs dressing room and with some tough games to come and other good teams involved, it all looks to be shaping up for an interesting run in.
