A Kevin Lavelle header deep into extra time proved the difference as Antonine beat a stubborn Tynecastle side in an evenly matched final that struggled to get going.

Both sides failed to create clear cut chances with neither keeper really made to work in a tepid first half littered with half chances.

Ryan Forrester made in roads into the Tynie defence but crucially couldn’t find the final pass to create a goal scoring chance. Mark Shiells was causing problems with his pace at the other end, along with some vicious crosses, most notably from free-kicks.

Jason Kerr had an opportunity from one such free-kick, but he failed to get a strong enough connection on his header to really trouble the Antonine keeper, McKenna. The same duo combined again from a Kerr free-kick, but this time McKenna couldn’t direct his header goal wards.

Tynecastle continued to press mid-way through the half, but it was Antonine who produced a golden chance to take the lead towards the end of the first half. Gallacher swept a pass out to the left wing where Forrester drove into the area and his smart cut back from the by-line found its way to Aaron Graham, who’ll be disappointed he didn’t at least make the keeper work from ten yards out.

The two sides were matching each other across the pitch, with Shiells showing a creative outlet for the Gorgie side. It was from another Shiells cross that Purves side footed agonizingly wide from inside the area.

Half Time: Antonine Blacks 0 - 0 Tynecastle FC

The second half was just as close as the first, with chances at a premium. Urquhart came closest in the opening exchanges when Brennan had to be smart to tip his curling free-kick over the bar.

Antonine came into the game more as the half progressed and were unlucky not to take the lead through sheer possession alone.

Tynecastle who were arguably favourites going into the tie offered little as an attacking threat throughout the half, their best opportunity coming from a long range effort from Danny Brooks late on.

Antonine pressed as the game drew to a close working keeper Brennan with long range efforts from Ferrier, Deane and Gallacher respectively, but it wasn’t enough to stop the game from going to extra time.

End Of Normal Time: Antonine Blacks 0 - 0 Tynecastle FC

Into extra time and the game continued as it had previously with both sides carving out half chances, before on the stoke of half time Antonine broke the deadlock in decisive fashion.

Lively forward Lavelle worked enough space in the area to nip ahead of his marker and get his head to a neat cross from the left to send the Antonine faithful into raptures.

End Of First Half Of Extra Time: Antonine Blacks 1 - 0 Tynecastle FC

Tyncastle thought they’d forced an equaliser deep into the second half of extra-time when a big penalty appeal was turned down and then moments later had a goal disallowed for a tight offside decision.

Good build up lead Craig Russell to crack the bar from twenty yards before Connachan squared the rebound to sub Kerr who blasted in off the underside of the bar only to realise the linesman’s flag was raised.

Antonine held out to lift the cup against the odds, a great achievement for the young Glasgow side.

Final Result: Antonine Blacks 1 - 0 Tynecastle FC
