County, Motherwell and Celtic extend gap at the top

Written by  Ryan Rowe
Ross County maintained their lead at the top of the Development League table with a 2-0 away victory over Hearts. Christopher McLaughlin and Reghan Tumilty grabbed the goals either side of the half. The result means that the Staggies have won four of their last five matches while the Wee Jambos stay in the bottom three.
Keeping pace at the top were Motherwell, with a 4-0 rout of mid-table Dunfermline to stay ahead of Celtic in second. The Steelmen dominated the first half but were unable to find the net until five minutes into the second period when Dylan Mackin headed home from a rebounded penalty. Mackin’s second goal (out of three on the day) was the pick of the bunch, as he smashed a left-footed half volley into the bottom corner from 25 yards. Jake Hastie grabbed the other goal.
Celtic managed a 1-0 win over Dundee despite going down to ten men late on when Brandon Payne was sent off. A header from Sam Wardrop secured all three points for the Hoops
Further down the table, Rangers drew 2-2 with Hamilton Accies. The Lanarkshire club went into the break 2-0 up thanks to goals from Gramoz Kurtaj and Ryan Tierney, but the Gers truck back in the second half with two goals in two minutes from Andy Dallas and Ross Lyon.
Elsewhere, Aberdeen defeated Hibs 2-1 and Falkirk thumped Kilmarnock 4-1. Aberdeen’s three points lifts them to fifth but Falkirk’s win couldn’t prevent them slipping to eighth. A 1-1 draw in between Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Dundee United saw Caley pick up their first point of the season; it was the same scoreline in the Saint Mirren and Saint Johnstone match and a point leaves both in the bottom half of the table.
