Glasgow City Blacks safely progressed to the finals of the SWF Scottish Youth Cup final after victory over Celtic in Kilwinning. The match ended 7-1 after a stunning second half performance by City. Particular highlights included a goal from birthday-girl Hannah Scott; a double from Megan Whiteford and a long-range free kick by Karsey McGlinchey, all of which, helped see the Glasgow side through.

City made a quick start to the match and were ahead in the third minute; Lucy Ronald and Hannah Scott played a well worked short corner, Ronald then beat her marker and slid the ball into the net from a tight angle.

Ten minutes later, City doubled their advantage; Scott managed to play a low through ball to Megan Whiteford who made no mistake and finished with ease.
Celtic then found a way back into the game after twenty minutes of play; midfielder Jade Menzies played the ball through to Mhairi Crooks who powered her low shot by the goalkeeper.

The Hoops were almost level a few moments later; Menzies attempted to lob Rachael Campbell in the City goal but Campbell just managed to tip the ball over the bar, out for a corner.

The half then drew to a close and City were 2-1 up at the break. Towards the end of the half, Celtic began to put their marker down on the game and had an excellent chance in the second half to push for the equaliser.

The second half began in the same fashion as the first, and both teams had a couple of chances in the opening exchanges, however, City added to their lead in the fortieth minute; Karsey McGlinchey launched a free kick forward from the half-way-line and the ball sailed into the goal, sending the City fans wild.

Lucy Sinclair scored City’s fourth a few minutes later; McGlinchey’s powerful shot was palmed out by Alicia McEnhill but Sinclair latched onto the loose ball and finished powerfully.

The fifth goal was very similar to City’s second; Cara Henderson slipped the ball through to Sinclair and she managed to finish, grabbing her second goal in the match.
City’s sixth and seventh soon followed courtesy of Henderson and Whiteford to secure an emphatic victory for their side.

The referee then ended the match and it was confirmed that City would progress to the next round; congratulations to them and commiserations to Celtic; both teams had done incredibly well to get to this stage in the competition.

The goal, it was a good finish by Crooks after a great pass through.
McGlinchey’s free kick; it was a fabulous strike and would not have looked out of place in a professional game.
