The football drought has ended and Accies faced Inverness in their first league match of the season, Hamilton had control for the full 90 minutes and left Thistle feeding off scraps for chances, front man Jamie Wilson ploughed a lonely furrow up-front with very little service and close attention from the Accies defence. The Lanarkshire side impressed throughout with Ryan Tierney being a stand out, lifting the home side's performance with that of his own.
Accies got off to the best possible start when in the second minute, were awarded a penalty kick after Carlton Morris was brought down on the edge of the penalty area, the pity being that he looked as if he might have run the ball out of play. Morris stepped up and chipped a cheeky little spot kick into the centre of the goal as keeper Daniel Hoban chose to commit himself by diving to his right, 1-0.
Inverness had a decent chance when they made their way towards the Accies goal. Chris Blackett played the ball out for Ali Sutherland to run onto, unfortunately the ball was a little beyond Sutherland’s reach and his outstretched foot sent the 15-yard shot just wide.
Hamilton produced a great bit of football when defender Kieran MacDonald struck the ball upfield, Morris headed out towards the wing for Ryan Tierney who then ran on before crossing into the far post, Steven Boyd rose and headed wide. Greg Docherty almost stunned the Highlanders when he struck a speculative lob from 30 yards. It looked as if it might creep in under the crossbar but Hoban managed to get his footing right before touching over for a corner kick.
Accies were two goals to the good when Boyd kept his pass into the Inverness penalty area low towards Tierney, taking a touch he sent the ball past the keeper from 10 yards, 2-0.
Tierney then went on to set up a decent chance for Docherty, crossing into the far post area for Docherty to head wide of the post. Tierney finished the half strongly and headed a chance wide of the post and then went on to strike a 20-yard shot wide of the post after some nice work from Steven Boyd.
