Alan Evans reports...

Craigroyston cruised to a comfortable victory over Inch Colts in blustery conditions at Craigroyston Park in this U-17 clash. Grant Stewart opened the scoring for Craigroyston before the impressive David Goodfellow crashed in a long range effort to put the home team two up in a frantic start to the game.

Goodfellow was a constant threat in the first half as the Inch Colts defence struggled to deal with his pace. It was the visitors however who struck next with the wind playing it’s part as Kevin Darling’s lofty free-kick found its way into the top corner from near the half way line. There were question’s over the goal’s eligibility with Craigroyston claiming it was indirect free-kick. That said, take nothing away from Darling’s impressive strike.

That proved to be the Inch Colt’s striker’s last contribution, as he limped off shortly afterwards. Without the impressive youngster, Inch Colts struggled to make inroads into the home side’s defence led by a commanding performance from Captain Keith Donaldson.
In a lively first half, both teams had men booked as tempers began to flair, but it was the home team who continued to push the visitors back. Inch Colt’s keeper Liam Cadle tipped a Grant Stewart shot onto the post after good work from Lawson Bushu.

Colt’s had a chance to get back into the game before half-time as a slip from Donaldson let Declan Robertson in, but a great recovering tackle from the Craigroyston captain more than atoned for his slip. Lawson Bushu had a chance to extend their lead after a swift counter attacking break down the wing from Scott Robertson however he miss-hit his shot when one on one with the keeper.

After the break, Goodfellow continued to torment the opposition’s defence, with Inch resorting to some cynical tackles to stop the Craigroyston playmaker. It was from a resulting free-kick that Captain Donaldson stepped up and struck the post from twenty yards, and as Inch failed to clear the ball, Lawson Bushu bundled the ball home from close range.

Only a few minutes after the goal, Donaldson tried his luck from similar range, only to be denied by the Inch keeper who shovelled the ball round the post to safety. Goodfellow found himself substituted mid-way through the second half, with a booking to his name it was for his own good as his on-going battle with standout Inch left back Daniel Kitson threatened to boil over.

With the Inch forwards becoming increasingly isolated, Craigroyston put the game beyond the visitors after Darren Harvey fancied his chances from a free-kick just inside the visitors half. The wind played its art again as Liam Cadle lost the flight of the ball and could only palm it into the net.
Craigroyston controlled the game from here and it could have been five only for a superb save from Cadle, tipping a Scott Robertson shot onto the bar and over.

The game petered out towards the end with the home side running out deserved winners. Craigroyston looked strong in all areas, with Donaldson and Goodfellow particularly proving too much on the day for Inch Colts.
