Gartcairn Football Academy are preparing for their club's inaugural Winter Football Festival. With no signs of tropical conditions heading the way of Scotland, it was seen as a perfect opportunity to guarantee football to young players during the winter months. With the two day event set for February 19th & 20th, the organising committee are putting the final touches on what proves to be a feast of football. Ravenscraig Regional Football Centre's state of the art indoor facility is the chosen venue as hundreds of children, spread across a number of regions, will make the trip to North Lanarkshire.
Three levels of the player pathway are catered for with games taking place at a whopping eight age groups. Saturday plays host to the younger players with Developmental Fours events at the 2003 and 2004 age groups. Moving up the ladder, next up is Soccer Sevens. This format will cover four age groups - 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. Finally, the oldest players can look forward a competitive 11-a-side tournament. The 1992 and 1998 age groups are catered for on the Sunday, with an exciting opportunity for players to sample a full size FIFA Grade 2 playing field. To top it off special guests shall be present in the hall throughout the day for autographs and presentations.
Whilst many age groups are already full to capacity, there are limited spaces available for those who have left it late. The 1999, 2003 and 2004 age groups are still accepting applications. For more details please click here to visit the official event website. Thanks of the organising committee go to main sponsor Mortons Rolls, who have made the event possible. A vital contribution was also made by Sport Scotland's Sportsmatch with organiser Robert McCallum stating: "It is thanks to these event partners that we are able to offer so many players the chance to sample one of Scotland's finest facilities. Without them the registration fees would have been tough for a standard youth club to afford, but now they can snatch a bargain."
