| City to the four with second half masterclass | |

It was an all SERYFA Division 1 affair in the quarter finals of the Under 16 SPORTSassist South East Region Cup. AC Oxgangs 95 sat a couple of spots ahead of Edinburgh City in the table, but City had home advantage as both teams looked to book their spot in the semi finals. With neither side looking to be in either a relegation battle or title chase, cup success could represent the best chance of silverware.
The first half was a tight affair, mainly contested in the midfield. With no goals at the break, the tie was delicately poised. However, fifteen minutes into the second period City took control and never looked back. Their first goal came bang on the hour mark. Goalscorer was target man Ntando Ntshangase, who converted after great wing play from Kern Hutchison.
Four minutes later, the Sighthill outfit notched their second. Central midfield Mark McCracken converted after a ball in by left back Declan Moffatt from a free kick.
The tie was put beyond doubt in the 70th minute. Kern Hutchison produced a cool finish after a great through ball from Kieran McGraw.
Lewis Cockburn killed the game off in the 75th minute. After a great piece of play on the left wing he cut onto his right foot and superbly curled the ball into the far corner.
Windy conditions somewhat hampered both teams attempts to play an attractive brand of football, however the home side were well worth their win come full time.
Edinburgh City will now take on either Hutchison Vale, Musselburgh Windsor or Broxburn Athletic Colts in the Semi Final. |
