Last year's dramatic runners up James Gillespie's signalled their intentions with victory over previously unbeaten Craigmount, in a game of many goals.
Prior to today's match, Gillespie's had only managed to fulfill two league fixtures - a win and a defeat. Whereas their opponents had secured ten points from four matches.
Craigmount took the lead, but it was overturned to give the home side a 2-1 interval lead. However, few could have predicted the second half which was forthcoming.
James Gillespie's netted six times, with Craigmount managing four, to produce a final scoreline of 8-5.
Callum Donnelly and Sean Stewart both netted doubles for the victors, whereas Mark Osbourne was on target for Craigmount.
The result keeps both sides in with a chance of league success, although victories elsewhere for Firhill and St David's move them clear of the chasing pack. Gillespie's have a Scottish Cup fourth round tie, at home to St Mungo's HS of Glasgow, to look forward to in the new year.
