Linlithgow Rose Under 13 Girls took part in the Broxburn Athletic Colts tournament on Sunday 19th August 2012. A poetic review of their day can be found below: LRCFC 3 - 3 Musselburgh Windsor LRCFC 4 - 3 Broxburn Athletic LRCFC 2 - 2 Bonnyrigg Rose Blacks Down to Broxburn to join in their festival (From a morning game with barely a rest-ival) The opponents from one league up we were playing Were worried the Rose would be giant slaying First up were the Windsor, from Musselburgh toon In their strips of blue (ours are not quite maroon) They scored very early but there was no panic at all Every time the Rose girls got onto the ball Five minutes had passed, and Anna struck home When she got herself some freedom to roam Round the edge of the box, a threatening lass Good decision to shoot rather than pass Cozza was scary, immense and quite “thumpy” I’m sure her opponent was rather quite grumpy To be Cozza’d not once or twice but three times or more Would make me just whimper and curl up on the floor With Jacqueline strong in defence on the left The Windsor girls were surely bereft Of hope as behind our newest recruit Was Beth in great form with her hand leg and foot Kirsty was thriving in front of young J-Mac Strong in defence, and the same in attack Working herself both up wing and down The Windsor fans were starting to frown Add in Lisa, (her movement and intelligent play) The game was going the Lithgae girl’s way Ellie was powerful (as she always is) An energetic and skilful young footballing Miss Zoe’s timing was stunning, her passing sublime Finding her team mates time after time Calm on the ball in an incredible way A joy and a pleasure to watch her just play Also on in this game was Magic Feet Lucy (Her tackling both meaty and juicy) The team performed as we knew they could All playing rather well and really quite good! 5 minutes to go and Tara struck gold It was all we deserved, as the pressure it told But he lead was short lived as with seconds to go The ball bounced past Beth from the Windsor girls toe The whistle then blew, it had finished all square But there was clearly no sadness, no hint of despair We’d played very well against a team of strong lasses And nearly had beat them with our cultured crisp passes. Next up were the hosts from Albyn Park Time for Rachel C to make a real mark Rampaging with force down the left side The Rose fans were beaming and glowing with pride Emma was there, in central midfield A threat going forward and defensive shield She may only be wee, but that doesn’t stop her Her opening goal was really a topper From twenty yards out she struck it with force On target and perfect as a matter of course The girls were one up, and playing good stuff Smiling and working and never a huff The game ebbed and flowed, we went 2-1 down No worry for the lasses from Linlithgow town We rolled up our sleeves and continued to try The ball on the ground and seldom the sky With Laura a threat, and Anna on form We were back in the game and drummed up a storm Of goals from our Taz, to even the score One more was needed to make it 3-4 20 seconds to go, and Tara’s clean through Nobody doubted she knew what to do The winning goal was in – that vital statistic As Paul, Al and Manus went simply ballistic One more game to go, we were undefeated Against the ‘Rigg was would we be unseated? “No chance”, thinks Laura as the ball strikes hits the goal From good work from Lucy from a defensive role Laura was working the defenders right hard (But always quite fairly, no chance of a card) Ten minutes have gone and Tara is floored But gets up, and from the penalty scored The Rose are two up, but the ‘Rigg are still trying As shots and crosses towards Beth are flying One goal is pulled back with ten minutes to go Would we be able to vanquish this foe? Lisa unlucky with a great forward run Anna and Rachel were strong in the sun Laura at right back was strong in the tackle No chance of a mix up or defensive debacle Ellie's pace and directness were making a dent (Its a proven fact that she just cant be bent) As in crunching hard tackles that would just make me blubber She bounced straight back up smiling (cos she's made of rubber). At the end of the day it was just a little too far Their last minute strike went in under the bar It didn’t matter a jot, not even a tittle Our achievement was great, and not a tiny bit little We stood up to good teams who were older and bigger And played with skill, effort, boldness and rigour Proud of you all (as we always are) The Rose girls are clearly the greatest by far! |
