| Meadows making an impact in Africa | |
The African Cup of Nations will capture the imagination of football supporters across the globe later this month. However, at the grass roots level, a youth club from the North East of Scotland is having an impact of their own. Ellon Meadows FC recently donated football kits to the New Life Home Trust who run a number of orphanages and homes for abandoned children in Kenya.
The photograph shows Anton & Dylan from The Ark Family Home in Nairobi in their Ellon Meadows strips. The Ark is a home for children who have not been adopted, usually due to special medical needs.
The children who received the strips were reported to be absolutely delighted.
As a club Ellon Meadows FC rely on the kindness of local businesses who provide sponsorship money to offset the costs of kit purchases. When kits are replaced there are often odd items of kit that are still in reasonable condition and the club were keen that these were passed on to others who could make good use of them.
