Youth cup finals returned to Pittodrie last night as part of a plan by Aberdeen Football Club to get more into the community again - potentially something that has been missing over the last few years.

Some of the SPL games at Pittodrie this season have been described as "dire" however there was some good players on show and some good football to please the spectators. Inverurie won 3-0 after goals from Ali Naysmith and Finlay Watson.

Among the players playing for Harlaw was Ben Mackenzie an ex North Region reporter with Youth Football Scotland who started on the flanks before being on the bench for a short period before coming on again.

The Inverurie starting XI all of the players play for Colony Park, Dyce and Albion who are all A League sides in the under 14s age group and it was quite clear to see with the quality Inverurie were showing.

Inverurie were to take the lead in the 12th minute after the ball broke out to Ali Naysmith at the edge of the box and then found the top right hand corner which gave the Harlaw keeper no chance.

In the 20th minute it was 2-0 after Cammy McArthur wonderfully turned a Harlaw defender before releasing in Finlay Watson and from 16 yards he found the bottom right hand corner to put "Rurie" in the driving seat.

Cammy McArthur had an excellent game for Inverurie and it was really unfortunate that he couldn't get on the scoresheet.  On 25 minutes he blasted an effort from the edge of the box which just went over.

Inverurie were hungry for more goals and it saw Campbell Marr try to get himself on the scoresheet after he pounded his way into the box and had an effort from 15 yards which hit the post and out.

The Aberdeenshire outfit were on top and dominating however Harlaw had a great chance to pull one back just before half time after Seyon Koshoedo played a through ball to Angus Maclean who tried a low angled drive which hit the post when the crowd thought it had gone in.

Half Time: Inverurie Academy 2-0 Harlaw Academy

Harlaw started the second half really well and nearly could have got a goal back after Seyon Koshoedo who was a threat to the Inverurie defence all afternoon tried his luck from 12 yards but his effort just went wide.

This was to be another half of good football and enough chances but only on the one occasion was a ball going to hit the back of the net. Mitchell Cheyne was next to try his luck with a 25 yard free kick which just went over.

Inverurie had another free kick which was this time taken by Finlay Watson in the 55th minute from 20 yards however it went straight at Finlay Johnson. Just 2 minutes later luck was to strike for "Rurie" again.

That is because Ali Naysmith got his brace after recieving the ball from Mitchell Cheyne before hitting a shot with his 2nd touch from 18 yards which wasn't a hard shot and unfortunately for Finlay Johnson he miskicked it and it went in.

It was the first youth final at Pittodrie in a long time and it was a great spectacle for youth football with a good showing and theres another youth final next Thursday when Culter meet Glentanar Under 16s next Thursday.

After an even start to the game with both teams attacking on three minutes, Culloden got a slight break through the middle of the Inverurie defence after a ricochet off Cochrane the ball breaks to a Culloden player who strikes the ball past the helpless diving Cook.

From the restart Inverurie dictate play and are playing some slick football, after some forceful play by Robertson down the wing, Naismith has a good effort tipped over the bar by the keeper. From the resulting corner, McArthur Watson unmarked heads in a great goal, 1 v 1 after six minutes.

Inverurie are starting to control the middle of the park and are using the wingers well. Marr has a rasping drive from 25 yards saved in 10 minutes, and it is one way traffic now.

On fourteen minutes Inverurie are awarded a free kick on the right wing a great delivery from McArthur results in the Culloden defender under pressure heading into his own net own goal, 2 v 1 Inverurie.

A quick break from Culloden results in a great clearance from Hay, at this stage the game is more end to end which results on 18 minutes  a quick Inverurie break after great work by Naismith his shot is saved, but from the clearance Walker hits a sweet shot from 25 yards that bulges the net.

On twenty minutes;  from a free kick McArthur delivers another fantastic cross in, this time Naismith scoring a great headed goal after losing his marker.

Inverurie are controlling the game at this point, Walker and Watson are causing Culloden problems down the wings with their wizardry and pace, with Cheyne pulling the strings in the middle.

On 25 minutes Cook pulls a good save from a rare Culloden attack. On 26 minutes after a good ball from Cheyne to Robertson his cross is met by Watson who buries the ball past the diving keeper  making it 5 v 1.

With half time fast approaching a speculative Culloden shot takes a wicked deflection off an Inverurie player and the ball loops over the wrong footed Cook. From the kick off Robertson forces a corner which Culloden defend well.

Half Time: Inverurie Academy S1 5-2 Culloden S1

The second half starts with Culloden obviously reacting from the team talk but it is not long before Inverurie are controlling the game, Watson forces a corner after some good wing play. McArthur delivers another great ball which is met by Hay but cleared by the defender the loose ball drops to Cheyne with a great pass switches play to Walker who in turn delivers a great ball into the box for Naismith who meets it on the volley and the ball burst the net, great goal.

Another mazy run from Watson results in Robertson swinging over a ball to Walker who makes the keeper produce a great save at the cost of a corner, which is easily dealt with. Some neat play with Cheyne and Watson results in another attempt at goal this time from McArthur which is saved comfortably. The first change of the game sees Smith coming on for Robertson with 7 minutes gone, from a well worked corner on 8 minutes Naismith again gets on the score sheet with a fantastic headed goal which leaves the keeper no chance, again from a McArthur cross 7 v 2.

A great save on 11 minutes from a Cheyne strike keeps the score down and again a great save from Hay at this time Inverurie are in complete control with the whole team playing their part.

On 15 minutes Grant comes on to replace Walker, a rare attack from the opposition results in a great save again from Cook after being a spectator for most of the half. Cameron replaces Naismith on 20 minutes, Cook is called upon again and stands up to the challenge with another great save to deny Culloden who are getting themselves back into the game at this time.

Forbes comes on for Scott on 25 minutes the game is a more evenly contested affair now with Culloden matching Inverurie without creating too much, but on 27 minutes a speculative shot from Culloden slips through the unfortunate Cooks hands.

McArthur is replaced by Robertson on 28 minutes, Inverurie start to just hold possession at this time sensibly slowing the game down, Watson is replaced by Dukelow, with time fast running out captain Cheyne gets his goal with a great strike from distance.  Inverurie can sense the game is over and just hold possession for the last minute the ref blows for full time and this sparks great celebration with the squad and spectators from Inverurie.

Full Time: Inverurie Academy S1 8-3 Culloden S1

A great all round performance on the day which was appreciated by all in attendance the way the football was played, a mention to all the boys who played in previous rounds that contributed to this win, that were unable to play in the final, well done to all the S1 boys.

This is Inverurie's second trophy they have won this season after they won the Aberdeen FC Trophy earlier in the season after they beat Hazlehead Academy 2-0 after Extra time and they have an Aberdeenshire Council Cup Final still to come as well

Special thank you to Forres for making everyone feel very welcome.

Inverurie power on to next round

A one sided game was seen at Inverurie Academy this afternoon with the Garioch side beating Ellon comfortably

The 1st goal was to be witnessed inside 3 minutes when Mitchell Cheyne's 30 yard strike found the roof of the net.

It was going to be a busy afternoon for the Ellon goalkeeper Lewis Gordon and Inverurie kept rattling in the goals when Finlay Watson's cross was controlled by Cameron McArthur who drilled it home.

Ellon did get a goal but in the unlikliest of circumstances when Ross Whyte's cross was headed goalwards by Murray Owen and the Inverurie camp thought it went wide but it was actually that the ball had crossed the line and went under the goal.

But Inverurie came back and it was 3-1 within seconds of the restart when Greame Cochrane's pass found Ally Naismith who kept his composure.

Inverurie weren't stopping there and went 4-1 up when Cochrane was the provider again when his pass went to Finlay Watson who put it into the top left hand corner.

There was some good football being played by Inverurie and got another goal when Sam Robertson's cross was netted at the back post by Finlay Watson.

Inverurie just weren't giving up and went 6-1 ahead when Watson's pass found McArthur who drilled it home.

The Garioch side were to get a further 3 goals before half time when McArthur picked out a great pass from Mitchell Cheyne and slotted it home, Cheyne was then to get his 2nd of the game when his 20 yard shot found the bottom left hand corner, Ally Naismith was then going to round up Inverurie's blistering 1st half performance when Finlay Watson's cross was met at the near post by Naismith and he slotted it home.

Half Time: Inverurie Academy Under 13s 9-1 Ellon Academy Under 13s

Ellon started the 2nd half the better side and Inverurie were still playing some good football but Ellon were a lot tighter than in the 1st half.

The goal of the game then arrived 10 minutes into the 2nd half when Campbell Marr's strike from 30 yards found the bottom left hand corner.

Finlay Watson was named Man of the match and got another goal when he dribbled his way into the penalty area and smashed one into the top left hand corner.

Ellon did get something to cheer about in the 2nd half when Fraser Gill dribbled his way into the Inverurie box and his shot was too hot to handle for Callum Wilson in the Inverurie goal.

Watson was having a brilliant game and rounded his Man of the match performance with a further 2 goals when he made another good solo run into the penalty area and smashed one into the roof of the net, and then a great ball by Mitchell Cheyne was put into the feet of the winger who drilled it home.
