Albion BC vs Motherwell - Under 16sAberdeen Sports Village played host to the second semi final between local side Albion BC and SPL outfit Motherwell for the chance to meet Dundee in the final.

A big crowd turned up at the game and they saw Motherwell progress to the final against a never say die Albion side.

It was a sharp start by both sides and in the 6th minute Motherwell got a penalty after Craig Caddens was brought down in the penalty box. Dominic Thomas stepped up to take the penalty and put the Steelmen a goal up.

Albion responded immediately when Harry Milne put in a quality back post delivery to captain Macaulay Rae who made things all square again.

Thomas had another chance to score through a free kick which went over the wall but didn’t beat Berton in the Albion goal.

In the 19th minute Milne sent in another dangerous free kick which was met by Rae who attempted an overhead kick but the captain’s effort flew over the bar.

Albion then had a goal chalked off when Chris Davidson put in a great ball to Dillon Whyte and he beat Gary Shaw in the Motherwell but the effort was disallowed for offside.

Albion still kept going at the SPL side and Motherwell had to thank Robbie Wotherspoon for denying Dillon Whyte an obvious scoring opportunity after a great ball in by Harry Milne.

Just 3 minutes later an ambitious 45 yard free kick from Macaulay Rae had to be tipped over by Shaw in the Motherwell goal.

Albion were to enjoy the majority of possession before half time and Milne stole the ball off Ross McLean and decided to have a hit from 20 yards but his effort went straight at Shaw.

Albion BC vs Motherwell - Under 16sAlbion had the first chance of the second half when Ross Cochrane’s free kick curled over the wall but was caught by Shaw.

Four minutes into the second half a mazy run from top scorer Steven Higgins saw him have a go at goal which was saved by Berton. However the loose ball came back to the feet of the forward who put the Steelmen in front.

In the 54th minute Well were awarded their second penalty when Liam Anderson was brought down inside the area. Thomas took the penalty to see glory once again but Nico Berton denied him, diving down to his right wonderfully to save the penalty.

The Lanarkshire side’s wait for a third goal was only a couple of minutes more. A long ball by Chris Caddens found Higgins who pounced home to score his second of the game. Albion's Milne was sent off in the aftermath after an exchange with the assistant referee.

It would change the game as Motherwell kept going at the Albion side and Nico Berton had to be alert to deny Daniel McDonald. The striker tried to round the keeper but Berton showed great reflexes to deny McDonald.

Albion then got a penalty with eight minutes to go when Mike Gunn was brought down by David Ferguson. AJ Baker scored with his first penalty but the defender was ordered to take it again and his re-take went wide of the left hand post.

Motherwell proved to be too strong for Albion in the end but the ADJFA put in a good shift as they have done against SPL opposition this week, with one final test remaining against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in Friday's 3rd/4th place play-off. For Motherwell a final against Dundee awaits.
