Motherwell vs Ross CountyTwo of the SPL's top guns locked horns at King's playing fields today in Motherwell and Ross County who were recently promoted to the SPL.

The Steelmen were to prove too strong for the Staggies, winning 8-1 with fellow SPL side Inverness CT overcoming Juvenile side Broomhill Juniors 4-0.

Motherwell started sharply, finding an early chance when Robbie Wetherspoon's corner was headed goalwards by an unmarked David Ferguson, but it was straight at Matthew Irvine.

Wetherspoon was to be the provider for the opening goal when he passed it onto Chris Caddens who calmly slotted it away.

Ross County's Sean Campbell then had to turn a half volley from Nick Caddens which was looking towards hitting its way towards the back of the net.

The Steelmen kept going and they added another shortly after when Steven Higgins's cross was half volleyed by Daniel McDonald.

Ross County then had their first real chance of the game four minutes later when Jack Lingard's ball found Chris Kelly and the winger let fly from twenty yards but his effort hit the post.

The Staggies had to thank their own keeper at the other end when he turned over a good effort from Nick Caddens.

Motherwell trebled up thanks to a great ball by Chris Caddens into Steven Higgins who sizzled it into the roof of the net, unstoppable for Matthew Irvine.

Ross County got a goal back when Cameron Crown put in a decent delivery from the left hand side which wasn't defended properly by Well and Connor Kelly pounced on the mistake to put County back into the game.

At the other end eight minutes later there was a controversial goal when Chris Caddens's right hand sided cross was met by Daniel McDonald who beat the offside trap and tucked it away into the bottom left hand corner which left County fuming.

Motherwell vs Ross CountyThe Dingwall side had the first chance of the second half when a through ball from Cameron Crown found Chris Kelly, Kelly had a smash from 18 yards but it came against the face of the right hand post.

That was a chance wasted for Ross County as Motherwell made full dividends by adding another when Chris Caddens knocked a ball long to Daniel McDonald who passed it across goal to David Waite to tucked it away.

Motherwell just kept on going and got another when Steven Higgins met a pass from Chris Caddens and Higgins forced his way into the box and fired it past Irvine.

The Steelmen got another when they created some good passing and David Waite's ball was nodded in by Dylan Mackin.

Motherwell completed the scoring with eight minutes to go when Sam Biggart got himself into a dangerous position, Matthew Irvine doing well to save the shot but it came to Dylan Mackin who put the game to bed.

A wonderful display from Motherwell with lots of good movement on and off the ball.
