SYCLTass thistle failed to make the final despite a good showing against a strong Hamilton side who secured three wins out of three in the group stages. The 3-0 score line belied the performance turned in from Tass, whilst not completely flattering Hamilton it was desperately harsh on the Ayrshire side who failed to convert a number of good chances which could have secured them a place in the final.

Tass, knowing they would need something from the game to make the final, started the game at a fast tempo and immediately had a number of chances to open the scoring. The first came for Joshua Lafferty though his shot was deflected into the hands of Hamilton goalkeeper Jordan Pettigrew.

Fraser Burns was next up but again Tass failed to test the keeper with the low shot straight at Pettigrew. Lafferty should have given Tass the lead, he was played through and whilst holding off a challenge from the defender lashed the ball wide of the right hand post.

A slack pass from Tass goalkeeper Dylan Jackson was nearly punished by Hamilton striker Declan Scott, who picked the ball up but the attempted chip was caught by Jackson.

Despite Hamilton reminding Tass they were in the game, it was Tass who continued to have the better of the first half and Craig Logan went agonisingly close to giving them the breakthrough after leaping above everyone to meet a corner but saw his header cannon off the bar. Logan headed wide from another corner whilst Kieran Tulloch saw his testing low drive held by Jordan Pettigrew.

These missed chances were soon to come back to haunt Tass as on the stroke of half time as Paul Rankin gave Hamilton the lead with a low finish from the edge of the box, right into the left hand corner leaving Dylan Jackson in the Tass goal with no chance.

SYCLHamilton upped their performance in the second half as the sought to make it three wins out of three and set them up for the final. They had their first chance of the second half with some lovely football being played as Declan Scott, who had run down the right wing, found Lewis Mooney in the box. He turned on the ball and slotted the ball low to David Thomson whose shot was low and well blocked at the near post by Dylan Jackson. Declan Scott was involved again as he turned his defender but his curled shot was easy for Jackson to hold.

Tass were not out of the game by any means and David Gibbons almost got them into the game but he scooped his shot over the bar. Then with the Hamilton goalkeeper Pettigrew off his line Fraser Burns knocked his shot wide. Craig Logan was next as he was found unmarked at the edge of the box but his chance was deflected wide.

This profligacy in front of goal was soon to punish Tass as Hamilton’s David Thomson grabbed the killer second goal after bombing down the right and into the box before placing the ball by Dylan Jackson.

Soon after, Evan Duffy added a third goal for Hamilton as their much better second half performance after David Thomson played the ball into the middle to find Duffy unmarked and he tapped the ball by the goalkeeper to give Hamilton the win and secure three wins out of three and get them set for a final clash with Milngavie.
