Riverside Athletic kicked off the New Year with a hard fought victory against Falkirk Reds at a very wintry Forthbank.
After a slow start in blustery conditions the boys warmed up and Harry got the breakthrough with a good strike from inside the box following a corner from Connan.
After a five minute break called by the ref due to an imprompt hail storm Falkirk battled back and got the equaliser with a run through the middle of the Athletic defence.
A couple of excellent saves from Alex stopped Falkirk taking the lead as Athletic were under a bit of pressure. This had a positive effect on the boys and a great through ball from Aaron Anderson to Kobe who kept his cool to chip the keeper and give Athletic a 2-1 lead at the break.

Athletic started the second half with a bit of belief and were well in command in the early stages pressuring the Falkirk keeper who spilled a shot inside the 6 yard box which fell to the unlikely foot of Callum Peebles who tucked the ball high into the net for a 3-1 lead. We may well have to change Callum's nickname from Chopper to Cobra after that strike.
The game went a bit flat after that as the boys were cold and tired which allowed Falkirk to break through again and score from a very suspect off side.
Riverside were now under a bit of pressure playing into the wind but a couple of changes were made and good defensive work from Ryan M who cleared a certain goal near the end, Aarron S, Harry, Luke and Alex stopped any Falkirk comeback.
After the changes, a couple of dodgy offsides and unlucky finishing Garry could have added another couple to put the game safe. However Riverside held out for a deserved victory.
