Under 14's Central Region Cup
07 December 2014
It was the third round of the Central Region Cup, on a freezing cold Lanarkshire morning, in which LYFDA B home side Dalziel BC took on last years Regional Cup winners Rossvale Madrid.
It was a December day that saw four seasons in one day but both teams were up for it.
Rossvale had an early set back as centre back Drew Purdy was injured and replaced by Sean O'Neil.
Rossvale pressed from the start with striker David Thomson causing some early concerns to the home defence. Dalziel looked dangerous when they broke forward and big Mark Montgomery made Andrew Coyle in the Vale goal work hard with a couple of efforts.
The away side benefited from the dead ball skills of centre mid Cavan Burns. His free kicks and corners proved troublesome to the home defence.
On fifteen minutes the snow started and Burns stung Michael McGynn's hands with a twenty five yard effort put over for a corner.
At the other end Reece McLure spun in the box but hit the side netting.
The home side broke again but strong defending from Derek Walker prevented Dalziel opening their account.
Matthew Laing had a chance for Rossvale but his shot went well wide.
Then Owen Jeffrey's last ditch tackle on Thomson prevented a certain goal.
Andrew Coyle the Vale's captain had to look lively when no eleven broke through but an excellent save.
The deadlock was broken by Nathan Clayton with a calm finish and shortly before the half time whistle Conal McGuigan thrashed it into the roof of the net leaving Coyle no chance.
Half Time : Dalziel BC 2-0 Rossvale Madrid
Rossvale came out the second half all guns blazing and needed a goal to get them back into this game.
Burns tried to get the ball on the deck and played in Thomson who shot wide.
Burns had a free kick thirty yards out but his shot was comfortable for McGlynn in goals.
Dalziel had some chances to put the game to bed but Coyle made a double save and was booted clear.
Their next chance was a free kick which Coyle touched onto the bar and caught the rebound.
Rossvale pressed to get back in the game and forwards Declan McGlaughlin, William Bruce and Lewis Hayton tried hard but time was running out.
Dalziel gave away a free kick right on the edge of the box. Young Cavan Burns stepped up and fired an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net leaving McGlynn with no chance.
There was now some urgency from the Vale and in the dying seconds forced a corner. The ball landed at Ahmed's feet who was fouled. Free kick and obvious only enough time to take it. Cavan Burns hit a belter which came off the underside of the bar to be forced home with a brave header from Matthew Laing.
Dalziel restart and the referee blows for full time.
Full Time : Dalziel BC 2-2 Rossvale Madrid
The first ten minutes of extra time was bogged down, with nerves showing in the midfield areas of both sides.
The second half started and Dalziel looked dangerous and with three minutes left a great cross into the box landed to the unmarked Glen McCulloch who calmly slotted home.
The Dalziel boys, coaches and fans went wild sensing a victory was on the cards. Rossvale tried to fight back but the final whistle sounded with Rossvale players slumped to the ground and Dalziel celebrated in style.
After Extra Time : Dalziel BC 3-2 Rossvale Madrid
