Dunblane needed extra time to defeat a resilient Fallin 5-3 in the 3rd Round of the Under 19s Regional Cup.

After an even opening to the match, Dunblane began to build the pressure and they took a deserved lead as Danny Scarvas rose to head in Sean Campbell’s corner.

Fallin fought back however, and levelled the match before half time. A long ball through the heart of the Dunblane defence lead to a one on one opportunity and the ball was turned in after the initial shot was saved.

The game sprang into life in the second half after Neil McRae’s low free kick from the left went through a crowded penalty area and into the back of the net.

Fallin then equalised for a second time shortly after falling behind when a curling cross from the left evaded everyone in the box and bounced into the far corner.

With a quarter of the game to go, both sides had chances to win it. The best chance fell to Fallin but they were denied when Dunblane goalkeeper Paul Grant saved a header from point blank range and with the two teams level at 2-2, the tie went to extra time.

After 5 minutes of extra time and for the first time in the match, Fallin took the lead when a cross from the right wing was headed into the far corner.

It was now time for Dunblane to respond and they levelled at the end of the first period of extra time. Sean Campbell was again the provider as his corner was headed in by substitute Ben McColm.

With no substitutes available, Fallin were beginning to tire as the second period of extra time began and Dunblane started to dominate.

Penalties were looming but when substitute Ross McGowan beat his man on the left and fired the ball into the net via a deflection, Dunblane looked confident of settling the tie in extra time.

And when Ross McGowan scored his second goal, this time a low and powerful shot from outside the box, Dunblane’s victory was confirmed. It was a match which was low on quality but the passion of the cup was there for all to see as Dunblane progressed into the quarter finals of the Regional Cup.
