Blue Brazil took on Cumbernauld Colts at home in the Last 32 (Round 4) of the Scottish Cup. With the Colts only losing one game out of 12 this season it didn’t look to be an easy game for the home side.
The game kicked off in freezing conditions on a Sunday afternoon with a rather large crowd in attendance. Blue Brazil got the first pick of the goals scoring after just 15 minutes which wasn’t the best start for the Colts. The game progressed, and against the run of play Colts managed to create a few goal scoring opportunities and at the same time kept out the Brazil at the other end.
The home side then had a goal ruled offside which was a lucky escape for the Colts after some poor defending. Blue Brazil then hit the post minutes later from a superb effort on goal from the Brazil striker. As the hosts piled on the pressure, Colts goalkeeper Johnstone tipped a goal bound effort onto the post which kept Colts in the game with half time approaching.
Half Time: Blue Brazil 1-0 Cumbernauld Colts
The second half got underway and for both teams the next goal was vital, and Blue Brazil took full advantage scoring in the first few minutes of the restart leaving Colts with an uphill task for the remainder of the second half. In order to get back in the match Colts moved Monaghan into the centre of the park and kept trying but nothing came as Blue Brazil put another one past colts to make the score line 3-0.
With the home side dominating play it wasn’t long before it was 4-0 with only 15 minutes left on the clock.
As the game looked well and truly over Colts were awarded a penalty with around eight minutes left of the game. Colts captain Vietch took it and hammered the ball straight down the middle giving the goal keeper no chance which gave the Colts something to celebrate. Minutes later Colts got another as Monaghan blasted past the keeper. Was this the start of the comeback late on?
Sadly not as with two minutes to go the Brazil added another goal to their tally with their left mid arriving at the back post to slot the ball home. The referee then blew his whistle which saw Colts’ tremendous cup run had came to an abrupt end and a dominant display from Blue Brazil confirming their place in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.
