In an open start to the game the Ardencaple number nine fired wide of the target with only a few minutes on the clock.
Fifteen minutes later Lochgilphead’s Rhuaridh Brown was fouled on the edge of the box, but the resulting free kick was placed narrowly wide by Kieran Moore.
The deadlock was finally broken when a perfectly weighted cut back by Blair Mackay was met by a curling effort into the bottom corner by Aaron Whitefield.
A second was added minutes before half time, when Ryan Caskie lobbed the ‘Caple keeper from a Kieran Moore through ball.
Half Time : Ardencaple 0-2 Lochgilphead Red Star
The home team started the second half on the front foot and took their first chance of the half less than a minute in when good work down their right hand side was met at the back post by a stretched number ten to make the score line 2-1.
Ardencaple had a chance to equalise a minute later when their previous goal scorer missed just in front of goal, much to the relief of the Lochgilphead side.
Lochgilphead were the more clinical in front of goal all game but the next goal was of a different variety when a Kieran Moore corner went straight in to restore the visitors’ two goal lead.
After the quietest spell of the game Ardencaple pulled a goal back with a lob, which debatably could have been ruled out for offside.
After this, ‘Caple were reduced to ten men, Red Star’s Rhuaridh Brown was fouled in the box after a tidy turn. Brown took his own penalty which was saved by the keeper but he confidently dispatched the rebound to end the scoring for the day in a game which could have gone either way.
