Congratulations are in order after Celtic under 15’s matched the 13’s result beating tough opposition 2-0 at Toryglen in the Scottish Cup. Similarly commiserations to Glasgow City for falling short at the final hurdle.
Both teams struggled to get any clear cut chances but Celtic edged in the shot department (6-3). In fairness the three Glasgow City shots on target didn’t really test Kiera Gibson in the Celtic goal. It was down to the well organised defence from Nicole Cameron and Shannon Nagie that kept the skilful Brogan Hay quiet.
Celtic’s midfield was key in this Scottish Cup victory as the made several interceptions and made several key passes forward to the Celtic strike force. Celtic always looked threatening but until the second half Glasgow City held strong and dealt with any threats.
A moment of pure genius gave Celtic a deserved lead shortly after the break. Abby Callaghan looked threatening throughout. She found space on the right hand side and released a deadly right footed strike which left the City keeper grasping at thin air.
Celtic were now in the ascendency and were founding gaps in the City defence and the tiredness really began to show in the City team.
Celtic then all but sealed their Scottish Cup victory shortly after when perseverance in the City box from the Celtic defence saw the ball fall to the feet of Captain Malloy who slotted the ball coolly under the city keeper.
Brogan Hay attempted to lift team spirits winning both corners in the final few minutes, but it just wasn’t their day
This final wasn’t a classic, but just like the 13’s, two key goals in second half from a gritty Celtic team saw them lift the Scottish Cup.
Congratulations to Celtic and Glasgow City for playing in such a good many and this is a day that not many of them will want to forget.
