Fairmuir made the trip to Wishaw this weekend in the third round of the Scottish Cup, and conditions were miserable as rain and wind swept across the pitch.

Both teams had chances in the first half, the better of which fell to Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers but stout defending by Fairmuir ensured that both teams went in even at half time, with some good football being played from both sides in the first half.

Half Time: Wycombe Wishaw Wanderers 0-0 Fairmuir BC

The second half was rather quiet as both sides kept possession but never really created any chances.

Until hesitation from the Fairmuir defence inside their own box allowed Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers to take advantage, as their striker picked up the ball and slotted the ball home to make the score 1-0, with only ten minutes on the clock remaining.

Fairmuir now began to press and play further up the park. A few corners and balls into the box were dealt with by Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers but a final corner in the last minute of normal caused havoc for the home team as the ball was blocked on three occasions before it fell to the Fairmuir number nine, Gregor MacAulay, who fired in the equaliser to make the scoreline level.

Full Time: Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers 1-1 Fairmuir BC

The first half of extra time began with neither team really looking like they were going to score but both continued to play good football, so the score line stayed at 1-1 going into the change over.

With only three minutes played in the second period of extra time, Sam Hodgson, the Fairmuir Captain picked up a loose ball at the halfway line. He waltzed past a couple of Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers players and smashed the ball towards goal, from about 30 yards. The Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers keeper got a hand to it but just could not keep the powerful effort out. The away team players, coaches and supporters erupted with joy.

The remainder of the second period was played frantically, with Fairmuir desperately defending to prevent a Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers comeback.

And for their efforts, they were able to do saw and there was to be no comeback as the game finished, 2-1 to Fairmuir.

After Extra Time: Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers 1-2 Fairmuir BC
