U14's Trans World Soccer SYFA Cup: 3rd Round

29 October 2014

The eagerly anticipated trip to Glasgow for a 3rd round Scottish Cup tie against Cantera was upon the players, management and supporters. The trip was made and upon arriving at the stadium the wind was howling and the rain coming down even harder.

The warm ups were completed, followed by a hold your breath moment pitch inspection by the referee. Thankfully he gave the nod, game on.

Both teams took a few minutes to get into the game and it wasnt until the either minute when a Robert who cross found Ross. He first time shot though ending up just wide.

Rory cut out another attack and played a one-two with Joel. As Lewis pushed forward the ball was moved around well before Robert eventually smashed the ball just over the bar.

With 25 minutes played it was Cantera who took the lead. An important goal which was the only seperation between the sides in what had been an even game up that point.

Before the half time whistle there was time for one last Lewis attack. Murray closed down well in the middle of the park and played in Robert. He then went past players on the left hand side before firing at goal. His shot was well saved though and the chance was gone.

The first half finished with each team cancelling each other out and only the goal to seperate the two sides. A great game for the supporters (if the rain would stop, it would have even better).

Half Time: Cantera FC 1-0 Lewis United Youth

Lewis United took the kick off with the same team that finished the first half. The visitors started well and were pressurising the home team, and this paid off. Murray played a peach of a ball over the top into the running path of Robert with Ross running the other way. This cleared the path for Robert to burst through and lift the ball over the on coming goalkeeper. A great goal to level the scores.

By this time in the game it was more free flowing with each team going for the jugular, and sensing either team could get what could prove to be the winner.

With 55 minutes played Lewis almost took the lead. Ross picked up the ball in the middle of the park before playing a wonderful pass through the eye of a needle to Max. He held the ball up well before turning and playing in Robert. His effort though ended up smacking the post and even Matthew on the rebound and was denied by a save.

Five minutes later though and Lewis had the advantage. Murray played the ball through to Robert who was brought down and awarded a penalty by the referee. Robert stood up and smashed into the bottom corner to double his tally and to give Lewis the lead.

Cantera drove forward now, looking for the equaliser with ten minutes remaining. If it wasn't for a great save by Matty, they would have found that goal. However, for the remainder of the game Lewis defended well and denied Cantera.

Well done to both teams playing in those conditions. A huge thanks goes to Cantera for laying on the hospitality of the sandwiches, crisps and juice for the boys and their best wishes for the next round.

Full Time: Cantera FC 1-2 Lewis United Youth

Man of the Match: The whole Lewis United team.

Magic Moment: Scoring the second goal and having fought back from 1-0 down.

How far do you expect your team to go in the competition?: I don't want to put a curse on the team.
