The rainy and very windy Cowan Park was the venue for Barrhead' Scottish Cup tie with Murieston of the West Lothian league. The wind or rain certainly did not stop the holders from putting on a show, as they ran out very worthy 5-0 winners.
The game started like any other Scottish Cup tie, with both team coming out fast from the traps, trying to suss one another out.
The game was very level with both sides getting a good share of possession, until Fraser McLaughlin of Barrhead broke down the left side into Murieston's defensive area and expertly finished to make it 1-0 to the holders.
Five minutes later the same player made a great run down the wing into the danger area, which was matched by a pinpoint pass by Conor Bradley, resulting in an excellent finish from McLaughling. Giving his side a two goal advantage.
Barrhead carried on playing with great drive and determination and on the forty second minute Barrhead extended their lead once more.
From a Murieston corner, the ball was won after an excellent tackle from Stuart Andrew, who played the ball out to Sam Mcneil, who fed in McLaughlin who once again drove down the wing and delivered the ball across goal, where Brian Ashe was waiting to tap the ball in. 3-0 to Barrhead.

The second half commenced and Barrhead came out just as strong as the first half. Murieston continued to put up a good battle in the middle of the park, but struggled to get many chances in front of the Barrhead goal.
Things were soon to get worse for Murieston, after the menacing McLaughlin was brought down inside the Murieston box. Tony Etherson stepped up to take the spot kick, giving the Murieston goalkeeper no chance, firing his side into a 4-0 lead.
Once again, McLaughlin picked up the ball and battled his way into the Murieston box, before firing the ball into the top corner. To seal his sides emphatic victory and cement their place in the next round.
