Milton’s fourth league match took place on Saturday 30th August when Milton were at home at Braehead Park and the visitors were Riverside Blue.
Milton started the match poorly and were well short of their usual tempo. After seven minutes Milton gifted the visitors a soft goal when a short pass back was pounced upon and finished well.
Matters got worse when in the 17th minute a long ball out of the Riverside end deceived the Milton backline and an unmarked forward had the easy task of converting goal number two for the visitors.
Milton finally got a lifeline when a Callum Sinclair free-kick cannoned back off the upright and Milton’s Jake Hurry showed great technique in converting the rebound.
Half Time: Milton Reds 1-2 Riverside Blues
Milton started much better in the second half and came close to levelling the match on a number of occasions, but Riverside punished them on the break when they scored goal number three.
Milton had most of the play but could not convert any of the chances they were creating and this was again punished, when on the 77th minute Riverside scored a fourth goal.
Milton fought back and in the 80th minute were awarded a penalty, forward Callum Brown was pulled back when he drove past a defender in the box. Jake Hurry expertly converted the spot-kick, but in the remaining ten minutes Milton failed to close the gap and Riverside ran out winners.
Full Time: Milton Reds 2-4 Riverside Blues
Milton were disappointed to lose their first game of the season but know it will be a tough year ahead and will look to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.
Milton’s next opponents in the league will be away to Balloch on Saturday 6th September.
