In form East End Thistle gave table-toppers HCT a run for the money in a keenly contested match played in ideal conditions. In a tight first half HCT looked a little rusty after the Easter break and East end controlled the first 20 minutes with midfield dynamo Brandon Leconte standing out. The game was held up when the Eastend goal-keeper suffered a bad injury mid-way through the half and the incident check the visitor's momentum.
Chances were few and far between from open play but HCT finished the first half strongly, hitting the woodwork and snatching at a string of chances from Brown's excellent corner kick deliveries.
Half Time: Hamilton CT 0-0 East End Thistle
HCT adjusted their formation at half time and the introduction of a second striker reaped its rewards when substitute Holland set up Jamieson 20 yards out and his strike found the bottom corner with the help of a wicked deflection. A wonderful 30 yard free kick from Brown then clattered the upright but the HCT strikers failed to follow in for the rebound.
Eastend continued to compete well but fell further behind when left winger Mulvanney ghosted into the box to convert a flick on from McCreath.
Eastend had the ball in the net with fifteen minutes remaining but the referee harshly adjudged an infringement on the HCT keeper who had raced from his line to save a defence splitting pass. As Eastend began to threaten regularly down their left wing, HCT brought the combative McLaughlin on to ward off the danger.
Thereafter HCT comfortably saw the game out and preserved their unbeaten league record. The regional cup finalists have been the surprise package in LFDA 99 category in their debut season, while an impressive East End team will wonder what might have been had they shown the same form earlier in the season.
