Grahamston FC

Alva Swifts

Under-14 FVFDA League Cup

29 March 2014

The Grahamston line up took the now more than familiar 3-5-2 shape with Grahamston starting very comfortably they maintained full and toal control of the ball and the game at all times. The shape was excellent as was the possession. Grahamston controlled the whole of the first half but just lacked the killer ball.

It was mid way through the half before they took the lead through the captain Robbie Fotheringham with a very well worked and deserved individual goal. Having received the ball from the wide position Robbie drove through the Alva defence with ease and finished low across the goalkeepers body.

Grahamston did have further chances through Spud who was showing just what an adaptable player he has become this season and also half chances from RD and Jae but the ball just wouldn't find the back of the net.

Half Time: Grahamston BC 1-0 Alva Swifts FC

The Grahamston half time team talk consisted of keep playing the same way, maintain possession and control and the goals will come. Grahamston freshened up the line up with Ali replacing Jae, Blair replacing Jamie, Rhys for Deano and Matthew for Ross. With another game tomorrow it gave Grahamston the oppurtunity to rest players and give their subs the chance to also lay down a claim for a starting position in this improving squad.

Almost immediately Grahamston showed their intent to close out this game. Ali made a massive difference in the attacking midfield role and was giving the Alva player a lesson in delivery of the ball to wide positions, Blair was working his socks off on the left, Mathew slotted in at the back as if he had been playing with us all season and Rhys showed some superb touches in the middle of the pitch again showing his range of passing and ability on the ball.

In fact the whole of the Grahamston team was giving their best performance in weeks. This was shown in the second goal and the genius of Grahamston coach Sandy Meek. Grahamston won a corner on the far side and as the ball was delivered but it was cleared to the right wing and as it was big Slick delivered an exquisite ball to the far post which was met by Blair Hasting who smashed the ball into the back of the net. The reason this was genius was that Sandy had told Blair about his movement and attacking of the ball which he followed to the letter of the law...........GENIUS. 2-0.

The third goal wasn't far away and it came from RD. RD has been having a lean spell over the last month with his return after suspension however, today he showed the hunger, determination and confidence was back in his game. Ali played a ball into the box and RD leaped to play in Ross with a great header. Ross had returned to the game as RF had been taken off to rest for tomorrow. Ross unselfishly returned the header that gave Robbie the chance on the half volley...... bang 3-0.

The love shown from the side lines for this goal from our man of the match Norrie  McEwan was phenomenal and returned with gusto from RD himself. RD was very unlucky not to grab his brace minutes later with a great drive from 20 yards out the ball came off the bar if it had went in it would have undoubtedly have been goal of the game. As the game was drawing to a close RD was taken off again in mind of the game tomorrow and Jamie took his place up top.

Again this had a huge affect as Jamie showed much more hunger in his approach. This was shown with his assist for the 4th goal. The goal came from a ball into the box and as Jamie latched onto it his shot wasn't held by the goal keeper and fell Ross to easily slip the ball home. 4-0. With only minutes to go Grahamston got their 5th and this was a great piece of individual skill and supreme finishing.
