U16's Central Region Cup - Semi-Final

Moorlands reached their third successive regional final after an epic semi-final clash.

In an even first half, it was the visitors who drew first blood when Thomas Cochrane latched onto a ball into the box to shoot his side ahead.

Ten minutes later, Moorlands full-back Jonnie Walker got himself into a good position to equalise but saw his effort saved by Glenboig goalie James Whyte.

Half Time: Moorlands 0-1 Glenboig

The early part of the second half brought a major turnaround in the tie.

Sean Monaghan got Moorlands level, pouncing after a Paul Mockus free-kick had been deflected to him and, five minutes later, the Uddingston outfit went ahead.

Fully 25 yards from goal, Robbie Stewart swivelled to send a sensational shot high into the top corner of the net.

The home side then enjoyed a period of ascendency and Whyte had to produce a splendid save from Alexander Foy to keep his side in the tie.

As the clock ticked down, Glenboig made a late charge for a leveller and they were rewarded when Cochrane was adjudged to have been fouled in the box.

Defender Adam Revie stepped up to tie the scores and take the match into extra time.

Full Time: Moorlands 2-2 Glenboig

The additional 20 minutes brought no further scoring although Glenboig came closest when Moorlands defender Michael Clarke saved his side with a dramatic lunge to block a netbound shot.

With the players looking weary after their exertions, the dreaded penalty shoot-out ensued. It was Moorlands ‘keeper Lloyd Fallon who emerged the hero of the hour with three spot-kick saves to win the match for his team.
